Sore On Tongue

A common cause of having a sore tongue is simply rubbing: if the tip of the tongue is the most badly affected area, this can be a further indication that the tongue is rubbing against teeth. Tongue problems can be embarrassing for we use our tongues for many activities: eating, speaking, kissing and what is on our tongue can taint what our breath smells like. So it is important to know about your tongue and how to keep it healthy. One of the most common causes of cankers is physical trauma to the mouth. Sometimes this comes from dental work like braces or dentures, or even from sports or biting the side of your cheek accidentally while chewing gum.

If you're okay with traditional medicine, there are a number of canker sore treatment choices available to you, and some of them even claim to speed up healing time quite a bit. Orajel, for example, is a company that makes a topical gel to put on the canker that numbs it for a few hours courtesy of benzocaine. Although a canker on the tongue is the most common place to have them, cankers can pop up anywhere inside the mouth. An important difference between cankers and cold sores is that cold sores appear around the outside, whereas cankers are always inside the mouth. A canker sore on tongue tissue is not contagious, and should not spread to other areas of your mouth or body. Though often confused with cold sores, they are definitely not the same thing.

A mouth ulcer usually appears between the ages of 10 and 40. They can be hereditary and may be a sign that you have a defective immune system. These annoying sores could have many causes: bad diet, stress or aggressive dental work. Cold sores normally clear up within seven to ten days with no treatment. Although no single medication can prevent or totally get rid of these bothersome blisters, a number of convenient and easy-to-do cold sore in tongue treatment and cures may help you do the trick in reducing outbreaks and cutting down healing time. There are many over the counter drugs, as well as natural healing methods, that focus on relieving the symptoms of a canker sore on the tongue. Most store bought remedies cost only a few dollars and have minimal side effects.

Alternative medicine has some of the most effective (and cheapest) canker sore remedies. For example, rinsing your mouth with salt water (1/2 teaspoon salt + 8 ounces water) a few times each day should keep it from getting infected and may even speed healing. The best option for you is probably one of the over-the-counter ointments that you put directly on the canker sore with a cotton swab or squirt right out of the tube. Just look on the list of active ingredients for benzocaine-a local anesthetic that should be in there at a concentration of about 20%. If the pain is localised to one specific area, take some simple remedies or pain killers. If pain persists, see your doctor. If the soreness is all over your tongue, seek medical advice sooner. Your tongue may be inflammed, or you may be suffering from glossitis.
