Feet Care Tips

Taking care of feet is often a neglected area of our daily body-care routine. These great parts of our bodies are carrying us around (no matter how heavy we are) all day long and all we want them to, frequently in very uncomfortable shoes and some socks that don't even breathe. You may have decreased sensation in your hands, too, but you are more likely to notice an injury on your hand. Injuries on the feet may be hidden by socks and shoes. So, the first step is to examine your feet every day.

One of the essentials to support these activities is the 'running shoes'. Not only should they be selected carefully but, it is also important to take care of these shoes to enjoy the benefits to the maximum and add longevity to their lives. Considering that, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that we don't always give them the kind of care and attention that they deserve. Anyway, it's still not too late to make amends. There are loads of things that you can do to pamper your hands and feet without going to a beauty salon. The important thing that truly makes a difference is: don't just apply. Take a minute or even better - two and massage the entire feet area (don't skip a pinky toe!), apply as much lotion as necessary, and enjoy the refreshingly energizing sensation of your tiredness departing your body.

People suffering from diabetes mellitus will often have a hard time maintaining their feet, because diabetes can damage the nerves leading to the feet. Diabetes can also impede blood circulation, especially to the extremities, including the feet. If you are wearing closed shoes, use talcum or foot powder to dust your foot and keep moisture out. Be sure, however, to apply only a little powder, and take care not to leave powder to cake in between your toes. Wash your feet daily and dry them thoroughly, paying particular attention to the area between the toes. One of the tools necessary for foot care for diabetes is a good moisturizer.

What should one do to prevent problems and remain healthy? Prevention is the key: regular screening for neuropathy and artery problems, monthly pedicures, daily foot examinations, daily use of a foot product to prevent calluses, and moisturize the skin and retain its protective role. A good cream is a necessary part of foot care for people with diabetes. The cream should be moisturizing and non-irritating. Good moisturizers include squalene and wheat germ oil. Non-moisturizing ingredients include petrolatum and mineral oil. The maintenance of the floors is better done when you clean them in the required and the technical way. Moisturizing is also important to healthy skin.

Find natural plant-based moisturizers that are extracted from natures own plants. Look for avocado, jojoba and macadamia oils which will naturally penetrate the skin keeping its moisture content at the correct balance so you will not have extra oily or extra dry skin. For starters, while you are doing your washing chores, you can let the soap stay on your foot and brush it off once your chores are over.
