Low Acid Diet

A low acid diet, also known as the alkaline acid diet, is one of the popular kinds of diet that health inspired people are taking nowadays. It consists of consuming and eating mainly types of vegetables and other less acidic foods like nuts, grains and beans with additional amount of foods that possesses a bit higher quality of acids like dairy and meat products. A low uric acid diet can prevent gout. That is to say, a diet that lowers uric acid levels in the bloodstream can prevent gout. A low uric acid diet is actually a diet that is low in 'purines'. Purines are naturally occurring chemical compounds we find in our bodies and in much of our food.

Nutrition and food have always played a critical role in dieting and losing weight. Absent other physiological/ medical conditions, the simple matter is that if one burns more calories than he/ she consumes, he/ she weight. This is why dieting and exercise are generally effective in controlling weight.

Such a low uric acid diet will certainly go a long way to help relieve your gout. But, there are so may other factors that influence a good outcome. For example, although diet is very important; your weight, general health, body pH, family history, medications, etc., all contribute to your gout.

Foods that are relatively low in purines and so make up a good low uric acid diet for gout sufferers are; essential fatty acids (e.g. tuna, salmon, nuts, etc.); low fat dairy produce (e.g. low fat milk, yoghurt, cheese, etc.); high vitamin C foods (e.g. potatoes, red bell peppers, red cabbage, etc.); green-leafy vegetables (e.g. celery, cabbage, parsley, kale, etc.); complex carbohydrates (e.g. breads, rice, pasta, cereals, etc.); fruits (especially cherries, strawberries, pineapple, etc.).

Foods that are low in sugar and salt are great. Instead of using salt to season your food, use herbs like basil, marjoram and oregano. These herbs are great gout preventors. Eat brown rice, whole wheat breads, and lots of fruits and vegetables. Be careful with the fruits and vegetables, though.

When in balance, the body can cope with the levels of uric acid produced, and the kidney's can eliminate waste uric acid in urine. However, if the body gets out of balance, and the uric acid levels are high in the body, then this can encourage uric acid crystals to collect in the spaces in the joints, and this causes pain, swelling and stiffness.

Low-fat dairy products, high-vitamin C foods, complex carbohydrates (e.g. breads, cereals, pasta, rice, etc.), essential fatty acids (e.g. tuna, salmon, seeds), vegetables (except those mentioned above), cherries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes.

Don't forget there are many foods that have been shown to aid in the treatment of gout and lessen symptoms or decrease the number of episodes you may experience. These will be added to your diet along with eliminating those high in purines to crease a low uric acid diet specifically designed to treat your gout.

Those suffering from symptoms of high acid intake are advised to learn to follow the alkaline diet in order to put our body right on track to proper development and growth thus saving us from possible illness in the near future.
